Jamie Meditz from USA

I’m a 24 year old who lives in Levittown, New York with my mom, dad, two brothers (Rory and Nolan) and a dachshund named Murphy. I went to Molloy College in Rockville Centre, New York. It was a commuter school so I lived at home, not on campus. I received my bachelor's degree in art education, and I am now a part-time art teacher at an elementary school in my town. I like living so close to where I work, however I am looking to go away for my masters degree in fine arts, so I can say that I have lived somewhere else and experienced more of the world!

In my free time I love to run and play soccer. I play soccer for a women's team and right now we are playing every Friday at an indoor facility (I like outdoor soccer more but this is still fun!).  I also love to listen to music, draw, paint, read, take pictures, and spend time with my family. I also love to spend time with my friends - they are so much fun, and every time we get together we have a great time. They are my second family. :)

Christmas around here is a lot of fun. Lately my friends and I have been getting in the holiday spirit by having Christmas movie nights, making gingerbread houses, and having holiday parties. Our biggest holiday party is this Friday at my friend Melanie’s house, where we dress up, drink wine, dance and have a "grab bag" for gifts. We each purchase a silly gift for $5 and put them all in a bag, and then we each pick a new gift from the bag without seeing what we are picking. It’s funny to see what kinds of things my friends buy, because some of them have a very odd sense of humour!

Christmas with my family is also a lot of fun. We actually just set up our Christmas tree yesterday, and we spent the evening decorating it with ornaments, drinking hot chocolate and listening to Christmas music. On Christmas Eve, we go to my uncle arty house (my mom's brother). While we are there, we listen to music, eat (my mom always makes her famous Swedish meatballs), play games, and laugh! Every year my aunt makes a special Swedish drink called Glogg. It’s a special alcoholic drink that is served hot and includes ingredients such as port wine and raisins. Here is a recipe that I found online that seemed the closest to what we make at Christmas: http://staff.theonering.net/corvar/recipes/recipes/viewrecipe.php?r_id=1

On Christmas Eve, we also have one of the uncles or cousins dress up as Santa Claus and hand out presents to all of the children!? Of course now we are a little bit older (the youngest "child" is 18) but we still love to get a gift from Santa. It’s fun to pretend you are still a little kid sometimes. After "Santa" leaves, my dad takes out his guitar and we sing Christmas carols. At about 11:30 at night, we leave my uncle's house and go to church for midnight mass. My family has done this for as long as i can remember.

The next morning, we wake up, exchange gifts and relax. In the late afternoon we head over to my uncle bill's house (my dad's brother). Here we have a BIG dinner (my aunt marguerite comes from a big Italian family that loves to eat!) and exchange presents with our other family members. Christmas day is much quieter and more laid back than Christmas Eve.

I really love Christmas time in New York, because during the year many people are always rushing around and too busy to care about anyone else. But for a month or so every year, everyone seems nicer to each other. People are more caring, giving, and more considerate of others. It's really a wonderful thing to see. :)

Ok so that was a little bit about me! If you need more let me know ha, ha. I’m also enclosing some pictures of me, my friends and my family.

Carlos Eduardo from Brazil

My name is Carlos Eduardo Carvalho Dantas..., I’m 25 years old and I’m
Brazilian, from Minas Gerais State ... Brazil has 27 states and Minas Gerais
is near the centre of Brazil. I live in Uberlândia, a medium city in
Brazil. Uberlândia has about 650.000 habitants and it’s a great city to work
and study, because there’s lot of jobs and universities, and there are
many people from all countries. In the next link, there’s a Brazilian map
that shows my country, my state and my city.

x

You may find many pictures from Uberlândia here
x
So... but I was born in a small town called Ituiutaba and lived there until
2005. My parents still live there. I’m a Computer Engineer, in Brazil
it’s a University Curse during 5 years... and when I had finished in 2005
I’ve went to live in Uberlândia to work.  The 3 first pictures are my
University pictures... first me alone, second me with my mom and my brother
and third me with my university colleagues...
x
x
x
So.... in Uberlândia I have a fixed job, I work hard 44 hours a week. I
make Telecom Software to my Company. My company’s name is SWB (Software
Brazil). The next 3 pictures are my company pictures...
The company, my chief and one of our development rooms.

x

I start to work
at 08:00 AM and finish at 18:18 pm and I have 1 hour and 30 minutes to
lunch..  On Saturday, sometimes I work with teaching in University... I give
class in Pos Graduation; it’s a curse for people who have finished
university. I was made pos graduation in 2006-2007 (until may)... my pos
graduation was "Software Engineering - Development in Java" and last
month I was passed in a World Certificated Test in Java, this is called "Sun
Certified Java Programmer"...  The next picture shows some of my
certifications...

x
I was told so much about my job, about my graduation, but now I want to tell
good things about Brazil that I like to do... of course every
Brazilian guy loves soccer... for me its not just a sport, its a passion, we
love this sport with our soul... my favourite team is São Paulo, who
discovered many good players in the world like Kaka, Cafu, Rai, etc.... and
of course I love play too ...  the next picture is a team that I was
played in 1994, 1995 I think... when I was a kid.. I played every day, every
free time I was kicking a ball... =)
x

But of course we don’t like only soccer... many things I can tell about my hobbies, but nothing is so
important to me like rock 'n' roll. I love rock 'n' roll since I was a kid
and it presents in my life for all time, in bad and good moments. The next
pictures are me, some years ago, in my bedroom playing guitar, electric
guitar… with my discs... I love old discs.

x
x

Last year I had a band that’s called Ancestral Terror... we played a lot last year.

x

But I didn’t have much time for the band and I was getting out...  of course I love go to
shows too.  There are some pictures - me in shows like Dr. Sin show, Paul Dianno´s show and many
other good shows I love go...

x
x
x
So.. in Uberlândia, in my free times, I like go to the good places in
city... like the Shopping
x

the Sabiá´s park, stadiun, arena and zoo

and some parties and events in the city.... Uberlândia has many good
places, to know other people, to drink chopps, eat…
x
x
x
Sometimes I travel... I like go to beaches in brazil like Salvador,
Florianopolis, Rio de Janeiro.. It’s a very good places to go.
Beautiful places, girls and natural things of the nature. The last
pictures are me in Salvador.
x
There’s a link about pictures in Rio… I love went to Rio… It´s very very
beautiful too

In Christmas, I will go to my parents city, to receive some presents
hehehehe. We don’t have ritual or traditions in Christmas. We just have a
good Dinner, eat Peru and Panetone. =)
